Class of 92 Takeover
The Class of 92 are a group of ex Manchester United football players who are known for their rise from Manchester United’s academy team to the senior team and being very successful at the club. Along with them winning the most coveted competitions in football, the main point that most people picked out was the fact that it was six academy graduates who were apart of the dynasty under Sir Alex Ferguson.
In 2013/14 season members of the Class of 92, Ryan Giggs, Phil and Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes became part of a consortium called Project 92 Limited. With also financial backing from Businessman Peter Lim who acquired the other 50% of the 100% stake and also owns Valenica football club in Spain. The fee of how much the consortium bought the club for was never released.
There was some uproar from fans prior to the takeover as Project 92 took the decision to rebrand the club by changing the badge along with the club colours, as they switched from orange and black to red and white, there were protests at games to this decision with chants of “we are tangerine” being sung from the terraces.
11 years on from the takeover the aim at the time and still is now for the Class of 92 is to get Salford City into the Championship in 15 years from 2014.
