EFL Journey

Salford City’s first game in League Two was against Stevenage and they got off to winning ways as they beat the visitors 2-0. The Greater Manchester club would also be put forwards into the Carabao Cup, due to their English Football League status. In front of the largest attendance seen at Moor Lane, 4,518, Salford beat Leeds United 3-0. However, it was in another competition where the Ammies would do well, in the EFL Trophy final, this did not happen due to COVID-19 and would take place in 2021. In their first season in League Two they finished 11th, even though the season was cut short due to the pandemic.

Graham Alexander took Salford to 5th place in League Tow but was shortly out the door in 2021, as Paul Scholes would take over but not for long. As Salford player Richie Wellens would be their new player manager. The rescheduled EFL Trophy final went to penalties after a 0-0 draw with Portsmouth, Salford won 4-2 and won the trophy.

Gary Bowyer became manager and did not win any of his first four games as manager. Neil Wood quickly followed suit after managing 87 games for the League Two club and was replaced by current manager Karl Robinson in January of 2024.

Since Salford City Football Club have been in League Two and co in siding with the club going officially professional, this has meant that more jobs and staff have been able to be employed at the club and Salford's reach is getting bigger with their recent progress from the Northern Premier Division to the English Football League.
